It is important to know this, because when you spray some fragrances, you will love the open but may not love the dry down, and vice versa. You also may love both phases. It is also important to know that some fragrances are linear, keeping the same scent during the whole life of the fragrance. That is why I recommend ordering decants, to understand the notes and phases you prefer or that get you the most compliments!
